National Retail Chain — Refurbishment Surveys Across 38 Store Fit-Outs
A national retailer commissioned refurbishment surveys ahead of a 38-store brand refresh with fixed weekend switch-over windows.
Project anonymised by sector and region. Named version available on request once the client has confirmed publication consent.

Property overview
High-street and shopping-centre retail units of varied age, from 1930s parades to 1990s mall units, with suspended ceilings and shopfitter-added service voids.
Challenge
Each store had a 48-hour fit-out window between trading closures, and any survey delay would push back re-opening dates across a national programme.
Survey undertaken
Refurbishment surveys to HSG264 across defined fit-out zones, phased to protect trading floors and coordinated with the shopfitter's mobilisation plan.
Materials identified
- AIB ceiling tiles and access panels
- Textured coatings retained above suspended ceilings
- Vinyl floor tiles and bitumen adhesives beneath finishes
Laboratory testing
Same-week priority UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 analysis of ~14 bulk samples per store, cleared before shopfitter mobilisation.
Our solution
Elements deployed paired surveyors to synchronise scope, mobilise same-week priority lab analysis, and issue draft reports before the fit-out contractor arrived on site.
Outcome
Every store re-opened on its published date; the retailer's fit-out programme continued without disruption.
Results at a glance
- 38 refurbishment surveys inside fixed weekend windows
- Zero store re-opening delays attributable to asbestos
- Priority lab turnarounds for high-risk ceiling voids
- Consistent HSG264 evidence pack per store
Timeline
Rolling 5-month programme, 2 stores per weekend
Report turnaround
Draft within 48 hours of site visit; final within 5 working days
