How Long Does Asbestos Testing Take?

The real times, from a working relationship with a UKAS lab.

Quick answer

A UKAS-accredited laboratory typically returns bulk sample results in 24–48 hours. Same-day results are available at premium fees. Air-monitoring analysis is normally 4–24 hours depending on the method (PCM vs SEM).

Bulk samples

Standard turnaround: 24–48 hours from lab receipt. Express (same day): available where samples reach the lab before 10am, typically at 1.5–2× standard fee. Weekend service: possible with prior arrangement.

Air monitoring

Reassurance and clearance air tests via phase contrast microscopy (PCM): results normally same day. Electron microscopy (SEM) for very low fibre counts: 3–5 working days.
